What is in the range.

The range is organised in three sections.

  • Tea & herbal infusions: Polish fruit and herbal teas from Herbapol, Big-Active, Malwa, Loyd and Mokate, Lovare teas from Ukraine, Lipton, rooibos and black tea from Freshpak and Five Roses, Chinese green and jasmine tea from Shan Wai Shan, and Korean teas from Nokchawon.
  • Coffee: instant coffee in jars and tins from Jacobs, Nescafé, Frisco and Aroma Gold, ground coffee from Jacobs, Tchibo, Lavazza and Woseba, Mugg & Bean beans and filter coffee, and 3-in-1 and cappuccino sachets from Nescafé, Jacobs and Mokate.
  • Hot chocolate & malts: a short list of cocoa. Brumi, Nestlé Nesquik, and Dutch cocoa from Dr. Oetker and Mokate.

The range by origin.

Two groups of shopper account for most of the range. South Asian and East Asian stores each have a smaller section.

  • Polish and Eastern European: the largest part. Herbapol, Big-Active, Malwa, Loyd, Mokate, Lipton and Jacobs lines come from Poland, Lovare from Ukraine, Aroma from Lithuania and Fares herbal teas from Romania.
  • South African: Freshpak and Laager rooibos, Five Roses black tea, Nescafé Ricoffy, Frisco and Koffiehuis coffee, and Mugg & Bean beans.
  • South Asian: Brooke Bond Red Label and Taj Mahal black tea in 450g and 900g packs, and Vital loose tea.
  • East and South-East Asian: green, jasmine, oolong and pu-erh tea from Shan Wai Shan and Sunflower, Nokchawon teas from Korea, Gold Kili instant ginger and tea drinks from Singapore, and Trung Nguyen G7 coffee from Vietnam.

Who makes the main brands.

Herbapol is the brand of Herbapol-Lublin, a Polish company that dates from 1951 and started with syrups and teas. Big-Active is one of its brands too.

Jacobs began in 1895, when Johann Jacobs opened his first shop in Bremen, Germany. Its first instant coffee followed in 1957. The brand now belongs to JDE Peet's.

Mokate is a Polish hot-drinks producer with companies in Ustroń and Żory. It says it is the largest Polish producer of instant cappuccino. Loyd tea is a Mokate brand.

Formats and case sizes.

Most tea lines are small retail boxes of 30g to 50g, ten or twelve to a case. South African tea is sold by the bag count, from 26 bags a box up to 160. Brooke Bond and PG Tips come in larger packs for catering and for big households.

Instant coffee comes in 100g and 200g jars, six to a case. Ricoffy, Frisco and Koffiehuis come in tins of up to 750g. Ground coffee is mostly a 250g pack, twelve to a case, and Mugg & Bean beans come in 1kg bags, six to a case.

Jacobs and Nescafé 3-in-1 sachets come in display boxes of 24 and are sold singly. Every line in the category is ambient.

What to range first.

Start with the shoppers you already have.

A Polish or Eastern European shop starts with fruit and herbal teas from Herbapol and Big-Active, a black tea from Lipton or Loyd, Jacobs Krönung in instant and ground, and Mokate cappuccino. Add Lovare where you have Ukrainian shoppers.

A South African fixture starts with Freshpak rooibos, Five Roses, Nescafé Ricoffy and Frisco.

A convenience store with neither group starts small: 3-in-1 sachets beside the till or the hot-water point, and one instant coffee in a 100g and a 200g jar.

Common questions.

Which rooibos teas are in the range?

Freshpak Rooibos in boxes of 40, 80 and 160 tagless bags, Laager Rooibos in 40s and 80s, and Five Roses Rooibos Select. Loyd and Aroma each list a rooibos as well.

Do you supply coffee beans?

Yes. Mugg & Bean beans come in 1kg bags, six to a case, in House Blend, Cafe Blend, Espresso and Mocca Java.

Is decaffeinated coffee available?

Yes. Jacobs Krönung Decaff, Nescafé Ricoffy Decaf and Aroma Gold decaffeinated instant coffee are in the range.

What sizes does Nescafé Ricoffy come in?

In 100g, 250g and 750g sizes, in Original, Mild and Decaf. The 750g tin comes twelve to a case.

Where are iced tea and bottled tea drinks?

With soft drinks, under Iced tea & tea drinks. This category is tea and coffee to brew or to mix in the cup.
