Energy drinks

Two brands lead the category, with a set of European and Asian brands around them.

• Monster Energy: 500ml cans in cases of 12 or 24. Monster groups its range as the original Monster Energy line, Monster Ultra, which is the zero-sugar line, and Juiced Monster, which adds juice. The range here includes Original, Ultra, Mango Loco, Pipeline Punch, Aussie Lemonade and Khaotic.
• Red Bull: 250ml cans in cases of 24. Red Bull Energy Drink, Sugarfree and the flavoured Editions.
• Burn, a brand of the Monster Beverage group, in 250ml cans.
• Tiger, Black, Dzik, Oshee, Pulse, Cult and Super C, and Hell, in 250ml and 500ml cans.
• Carabao and M-150 from Thailand, including the 150ml bottle.

Labelling. Under EU food information rules, a drink with more than 150mg of caffeine per litre must carry the words "High caffeine content. Not recommended for children or pregnant or breast-feeding women" in the same field of vision as its name, followed by the caffeine content per 100ml. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland also states that food information in Ireland must be in English.

Age. There is no legal minimum age for buying energy drinks in Ireland. A Private Member's Bill that would ban sales to under-18s is before the Seanad but has not become law. Safefood advises that energy drinks are not suitable for children and, in a 2016 review, recommended a voluntary retailer code to consider age at the point of sale. Checked 5 October 2026.
