What is in the range.

The range is built by country.

  • Polish: Lubella in spaghetti, penne, fusilli, tagliatelle and small shapes such as farfalline and quadretti, plus its 5-egg ribbons and threads. Goliard, Czaniecki, Sulma and Polmak make home-style egg pasta: vermicelli, ribbons, pappardelle and nests.
  • Italian: Valdigrano in penne rigate, spaghettini, capellini, ditali, gomiti rigati and risini.
  • Romanian: Baneasa spaghetti, penne rigate, fusilli and nests, and egg pasta from Arnos and Montebanato.
  • Lithuanian: Pasaka spaghetti, shells, horns and spirals.
  • Hungarian: Gyermelyi egg soup pasta and tarhonya.
  • Made in Germany for Eastern European shoppers: Lackmann vermicelli and thin noodles, and Kur Ryaba egg pasta.
  • Also Barilla spaghetti and penne rigate, Fattis & Monis macaroni from South Africa and Samyang Tangle tomato pasta.

Who makes the main brands.

Lubella is a brand of the Maspex group. Valdigrano was founded in 1997 by Flavio Pagani as a family business. Its factory is at Rovato, in Franciacorta, Italy, and it makes durum wheat semolina pasta.

Shaped pasta and egg pasta.

The range splits in two. Shaped pasta such as spaghetti, penne and fusilli is the everyday line, from Valdigrano, Baneasa, Barilla and Lubella. Egg pasta is the Polish, Hungarian and Romanian line, and the product title gives the egg count: 2-egg, 4-egg, 5-egg or 8-egg. The fine vermicelli and threads are soup pasta.

Formats and case sizes.

Shaped pasta comes in 400g or 500g packs and most egg pasta in 250g. Valdigrano comes as 24 x 500g, and Lubella as 12 or 18 x 400g. Goliard egg pasta comes as 28 x 250g, and Pasaka in cases of 20 to 32.

All pasta lines are ambient.

What to range first.

A Polish or Eastern European shop starts with Lubella spaghetti, penne and fusilli and its 5-egg threads, then adds Goliard vermicelli and ribbons. A Romanian fixture starts with Baneasa, a Lithuanian one with Pasaka.

A convenience store, deli or caterer with no particular shopper group needs only Valdigrano penne rigate and spaghettini.
