What it covers.

Each kind has its own shopper, so range the one that matches your store.

  • South African rusks: Ouma in Buttermilk, Condensed Milk, Coconut, Muesli, Three Seed and Malva Pudding, and Bakers rusks in Tennis Coconut and Ginger Nuts & Golden Syrup. Packs are 450g or 500g, twelve or six to a case; Ouma Muesli comes in one kilo.
  • Tea rusk: Parle Premium Rusk with cardamom, in 200g and 600g packs, and Regal Crunchy Tea Rusk in 200g.
  • Snack rusks: Flint and Snekkin from Ukraine, in cheese, garlic, sour cream, horseradish, mushroom, kebab, crab and red caviar flavours. They come in 60g to 70g bags, with Flint mostly 65 to a case and Snekkin 20.

How it differs from biscuits and crackers.

South African rusks and tea rusk are hard-baked, lightly sweet and bought in large packs for the cupboard. Sweet biscuits and cookies are softer, richer and sold in smaller packs. The Ukrainian snack rusks are flavoured like crisps and sell beside crisps and bar snacks, not in the biscuit aisle. Plain and salted crackers have a section of their own.
